![]() What I was hoping I could use it for to completely automate are machines I won't use as much, like the deconstructor, or machines with short processing times, like the seed maker. Yeah, I'm incredibly disappointed with it too. Or hell, even if the hoppers could only take out OR load an item, not both, that'd be useful for worm bins, tree tappers, bee hives, crystalariums, etc. Just keep the hoppers loaded with slime eggs, then when the slimes hatch, it dumps them into a pen below the incubator. The only hands free usage I can think of for this would be for slime ranching. So rather than needing to access your chests twice a day, now you just grab your crap twice a day. Or the same thing, but for charcoal kilns or wood chippers or whatever. Every morning and every night, you just ran past and pull 4 bars out without having to open or close any chests. But considering most of us will get them when our farms are mostly "done". Like, if these were an early game item, I'd definitely use them. But locking them behind such an endgame thing, despite being just kinda useful. but I can still see them being moderately useful. To make a long story short, if you are producing a variety of different items and are busy doing other things as well, then buying a bunch of hoppers can save you a little bit of time and effort in exchange for a ton of extremely valuable Qi points. If you don't have the space to cart the ore and bars around, then you have to pick through your chests instead. This would normally mean you have to dedicate up to 5 slots of your inventory to keeping the furnaces fed, and more annoyingly, you need to switch between each ore type and whatever else it is you are working with at the moment in order to set up the next order of bars. This means you want to make sure every time you wander near your forges you pick up your bars and dump coal and whatever ore you want smelted into each of them. So say you are working on the typical late-game project of building a zillion crystalariums and kegs. Basically setting up hoppers is just an expensive way to save some inventory space, and in some cases a bit of shuffling items around. I actually don't think they are half bad, but just being alright isn't really what you expect for something that costs a bunch of Qi points. They are working as intended, but it's just that they are pretty lackluster given how expensive they are. What is your experience with them and what do you think about them? I may have overlooked some crucial details or didn't use it with the right machines or may have misused it and didn't understand its full mechanics. take an input from a linked object so you could not only autofill, but auto-take items out of it.īut that is why I'm here. In my opinion they could be really useful if they would be a little cheaper or craftable and would behave more like Minecraft Hoppers, e.g. So neither does the new Hopper solve any issues, like what a sprinkler does versus manual watering, it just cost you and you don't get any benefit. The biggest difference between unmodded and Automate mod is that you are forced to build multiple more machines, especially for short time products like copper bars or coffee kegs and you have to watch over them and fill them yourself. You may even lose time with the additional inventory/hopper/chest management. It does not save any time, because you could just double click the smelter with a selected iron ore plus coal in inventory. You take out the bar manually and the smelter then is automatically filled with the iron ore and coal. You have a hopper behind the smelter which is filled with coal and iron ore. you have a smelter with a finished iron bar. Items placed inside will automatically be loaded into the machine in front of it.Į.g.Let us shortly repeat what a Stardew Valley Hopper does: Let's not compare them to the Automate mod but to the vanilla possibilities. However I can't find Hoppers any useful, besides they are expensive as hell. I came to the to point, where I nearly tested out every new item in 1.5.0 and for most of them I found an useful usecase, where it is worth to invest in them.
